11-year-old dead after being hit by a car

An 11-year-old Kapiri-Mposhi grade two student was killed when he was struck by a car that veered off the road due to driving too fast.

Lackson Mwiinga, who was returning from school on the right side of the pedestrian lane, was struck and instantly killed by a Toyota Hilux driven by Frank Shanembe, 28, who had lost control of his vehicle owing to driving too fast.

David Chileshe, the police commissioner for Central Province, verified the tragic incident and stated it happened yesterday at around 16:30.

An 11 year old grade two pupil identified as Lackson Mwiinga of Mafwasa area died on the spot after being hit by a Toyota Hilux Registration number BAR 3596 property of Huacheing Mining which was being driven by Mr Frank Shanembe aged 28 of Ndola’s Itawa Township. The accident happened when the driver due to excessive speed careered off the road and hit the pedestrian who was walking on the right side of the road,” he said.

According to Mr. Chileshe, the driver has now been taken into prison by the police, and the deceased’s body is currently being treated at the Kapiri-Mposhi district hospital.
