Abiy meets Tigrayan leaders for first time following peace accord

Since the two parties signed a peace deal three months ago, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has never met Tigrayan leaders.

Images published by Ethiopian state media show General Tadesse Worede, the head of the Tigrayan army, and Mr. Ahmed seated with other high government officials.

They reportedly talked about areas that needed more attention as well as the progress made in carrying out the peace agreement.

The deal put an end to a civil conflict that had destroyed the northernmost part of the country for two years.

According to reports, the gathering happened in a resort in southern Ethiopia.
