The local organizing committee for the 2023 under-18 and 20 African Athletics Championships in Lusaka has been announced by the government.
The top personalities in Zambia’s banking, financial, media, production, consultancy, and commercial sectors make up the local organizing committee, which has been tasked with arranging and overseeing the efficient operation of the tournament, which runs from April 19 to May 3, 2023.
MIZINGA MULE, the chief executive of ABSA, and MUKWANDI CHIBESAKUNDA of ZANACO are two of the individuals chosen to lead the committee.
Speaking at the announcement in Lusaka today, Sports Minister ELVIS NKANDU stated that the government is optimistic that Zambia will host the tournament successfully given the credibility of the members.
He claims that a successful hosting of the event will boost the nation’s reputation as it plans to organize further events in the area and is now competing for the right to host the Africa Cup of Nations competition.
Speaking at the same event, Vice Chairperson of the Committee and President of Zambia Athletics-ZA ELIAS MPONDELA urged all parties involved to work together to make the event a success.
SHAKALIMA SIMANGOLWA, a committee member, offered a vote of gratitude and stated that it was time to go to work and make sure that the needed manpower and resources were raised in due time.
