MUZUMYA KAYEMBA, executive director of the Matimba Spinal Surgery Foundation, has encouraged the government to provide desks with back supports in order to prevent and lessen the incidence of scoliosis in Zambia.
According to Mr. KANYEMBA, the Constituency Development Fund CDF should consider health conditions like scoliosis when creating desks.
He continues by saying that the lack of back rests in the tables now manufactured in Zambia renders them unsafe for students.
In order to avoid carrying bulky backpacks, which also contribute to scoliosis, Mr. KANYEMBA has asked parents to make sure that students only carry the books they need on that specific day.
The government is promoting design technology and the arts in schools, according to Copperbelt Province Education Officer STEPHEN CHISHIKO, since they teach students survival skills.
If the nation is to advance and see a growth in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Dr. CHISHIKO has urged students to show an interest in design, innovation, and technology.
He claims that, if done right, designing, innovation, and technology may create a pool of engineers, scientists, and technologists.
