CCPC investigates rumored cartel charging high prices for alcohol

THE Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has revealed that it is investigating the alleged cartelistic behavior committed by some market participants in the country’s clear beer product distribution value chain.

The avalanche of complaints the Commission has received, according to a statement from CCPC public relations officer Rainford Mutabi, is the cause for alarm.

According to Mr. Mutabi, certain distributors are suspected of organizing cartels with middlemen to sell alcoholic beverages for exorbitant sums.

He added, “In light of the aforementioned, the CCPC continues to review this situation and will disclose the conclusions upon conclusion.
