Congolese civilians flee in anticipation of an M23 advance

Due to concerns that the M23 rebel organization is advancing, residents of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo are escaping their houses close to Goma.

According to reports, the militia has been engaged in combat with the Congolese army close to Sake.

Following the Tutsi-led rebels’ advance in recent months, tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes.

The same tribe was driven from eastern DR Congo into Uganda and Rwanda ten years ago.

Although it has been claimed that Rwanda’s government backs the M23, it disputes this.

For many years, Rwanda has criticized the Congolese government for neglecting to disarm Hutu rebels, some of whom were responsible for the genocide in Rwanda.
