DEC Arrests Former University student Selling Drugged Cupcakes

A 22-year-old former student from a reputable university in Lusaka was detained when it was discovered that he was selling marijuana-laced cupcakes to students in the mass media area.

Further investigation revealed that Twambo Sichombo had 31 grams of marijuana hidden in his chamber.

According to Hussein Khan, the public relations officer for the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), the defendant is accused of trafficking 800 grams and 31 grams of marijuana on two separate offenses.

“The suspect was apprehended in the Mass Media area with 20 cupcakes laced with cannabis weighing 800 grams. A search of his room led to the discovery of 31 grams of loose cannabis.Sichombo is believed to have been selling the cannabis laced cupcakes to students in the Mass Media and surrounding areas.He is detained in lawful custody will appear in court soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, DEC in Northern Province has arrested two people for trafficking in more than 300 kilograms of loose cannabis.

“Those arrested are Chipungu Sikonde, aged 29 and Justine Mulenga, aged 23 both of Mpulungu District for trafficking in 285 rolls of loose cannabis weighing 301 kilograms contrary to section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia,” Mr Khan said.

He said the suspects were apprehended at a known filling station in Mpulungu and that the contraband was wrapped in banana leaves and concealed in black plastics.

“The Commission would like to sternly warn all individuals involved in selling cannabis and other illegal drugs to desist forthwith as they will be met with the full force of the law. The Commission will not condone and watch selfish individuals peddle drugs to youths in learning thereby derailing their academic progression,” he said.
