An enraged mob in Kawambwa area beat up a motorist who is accused of being responsible for the death of an 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car that lost control on Mbereshi Kawambwa road.
When Goodluck Mwenya, 32, was struck by Simon Kabamba, driving a Toyota Kulger with the license plate BCB 8781ZM, he suffered fatal head injuries and passed away at the scene.
Gloria Mulele, the commanding officer for Luapula province, stated that Mr. Kabamba, who was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his car after hitting a pothole.
Later, the car left the path of travel and struck the pedestrian who was standing on the side of the road.
“The accident happened around 13:00 hours when the driver was driving from west to east and in the process he lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed hit into a pothole before he careered off the road and went to hit a pedestrian who was standing off the road .The victim died on the spot after sustaining fatal head injuries and the body is laying in Kawambwa district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the driver is nursing injuries in hospital after he was beaten by mob,”she said.
