Govt Taking Action On Abusive Employers

Asham Investment Ltd, a company that produces lime, has had its operations banned by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security because it failed to provide its employees with personal protective equipment.

The firm and Baudot Cement Zambia Limited have also been fined by the Ministry 60 thousand kwacha apiece, which must be paid within 14 days to avoid further legal action.

This comes after a team of labor inspectors and other statutory agencies were led by minister of labor BRENDA TAMBATAMBA on unscheduled inspections of the two businesses.

After the inspection, Ms. TAMBATAMBA gave the two companies some advice on not being involved in corruption.

The government, according to Ms. TAMBATAMBA, is there to encourage investors as they work to build the nation but will not tolerate any violations of labor regulations.
