Three years imprisonment to former ZRA accounting assistant

Three years in prison were handed down to a former ZRA accounting assistant for stealing approximately K170,000.

Sami Sami, a former accounts assistant for the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), has been found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison with hard labor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court.

Sami, the convicted felon, was ordered by Magistrate Faides Hamaundu to repay the money he had stolen to the Zambia Revenue Authority.

Sami, age 43, was found guilty on 18 counts of Theft by Public Servant in violation of Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and Section 277 of the Penal Code.

The court was informed that Sami, an account assistant at ZRA, stole K174,566.59 in cash from ZRA between unspecified dates but between August 16, 2018, and July 31, 2019, while working for ZRA as a member of the public service.

And ZRA has forcefully cautioned its employees that there are no sacred cows because any officials found guilty will face the harshest legal penalties possible.
