Woman Facing five years for breaking & stealing

A 22-year-old Ndola woman has admitted to breaking into three homes and stealing K20,000 worth of property in total.

Judith Mulenga, who was detained alongside Joyce Mofya, has now received a five-year prison sentence, but Mofya has maintained her innocence.

Mulenga was regarded by Ndola Magistrate Brian Simachela as a dangerous criminal who should not be underestimated when he handed down his sentence.

Mulenga was accused of breaking into homes and stealing on three separate occasions.

In the first occurrence, Caleb Mumba left his home at 6:00 in the morning, and when he returned around 14:00, he discovered that his property, which included a plasma television set valued at K4,650, was missing. This information was contained in a statement of facts read by State Prosecutor John Simagesi.

On February 10, Geoffrey Mwape and his wife departed for work in another incident, and when they got home, they discovered that his locking system had been destroyed and that K3,000 worth of property, including a plasma television, had been stolen.

According to Mr. Simagesi, a teacher named Wanga Kamanga discovered his television set and other items—all worth K7,050—on another occasion while she was attending church.

Mulenga cried as she pleaded with the court for forgiveness during her mitigation.
