Zodwa Wabantu denied entering Lesotho

What a huge blow for South African dancer and entertainer Zodwa Wabantu as the Lesotho government blatantly turned her away from entering the country. In a letter signed on Wednesday, 2 August, the controversial performer was denied a permit due to her indecent style of dressing.

A letter from Minister Lebona Lephema from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship, Home Affairs & Police Department clearly states that Zodwa Wabantu who was invited to the country to perform will not be allowed to pass the Lesotho border and attend her gig for reasons pertaining to her controversial and “indecent” fashion choices.

“Zodwa Wabantu whom you have invited to Lesotho, will be denied entry into the country. Zodwa is known to perform without wearing anything decent in public, the conduct which accounts to public indecency,” the letter read.

Lephema added that Lesotho is a Christian Nation with Christian values and as the government, they were not willing to compromise their values for Zodwa.

Earlier this year, Zodwa trended after a video showing her dancing in a nightclub without any underwear and in a revealing skirt, the publication previously reported. She also topped the social media trends list when she was seen in another video rubbing her private area inside a nightclub and thereafter smelling her fingers in front of several people, before assuring viewers that all was good and fresh, the publication reported.

“In terms of our Panel Code Act 2010, Section 56, thereof, a person who creates or takes steps in any indecent spectacle or performance, or who does in public or private any indecent act which is calculated to offend any reasonable member of the public, commits a crime. We are not prepared to wait until a crime is committed,” the letter concludes.
