27 persons have been detained by police in Chisamba who are thought to be illegal immigrants.
This came about after locals in the Mwachisompola region saw the group in a field of maize and promptly called police, who sped over and arrested them.
Initial investigations, according to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, showed that the group of men, all of whom were believed to be from Ethiopia and were between the ages of 18 and 40, were walking toward Lusaka when the motor vehicle they were traveling in suffered a mechanical defect.
“They were being led by a Zambian man only identified as Nsama aged 36 of Kabanana area in Lusaka.The suspects were apprehended on April 22, 2023 between 09:00 hours and 13:00 hours in Mwachisompola area,” he said.
Mr Mwale said the suspects have all been handed over to the Department of Immigration for further investigations.
