According to MAGGIE KAUNDA, acting managing director of Zambia Airports Corporation, the nation saw an increase in the number of visitors from Europe and other parts of Africa in 2022 compared to 2021.
According to Mrs. KAUNDA, 1.6 million passengers were handled at airports in Zambia in 2022, up from 753,000 in 2021.
She explained the rise by saying that COVID-19 limits had been loosened.
Speaking at a media breakfast in Lusaka, Mrs. KAUNDA claimed that the Ministry of Health’s decision to remove the obligation for travelers to take PCR tests has increased the number of foreign arrivals as well.
She went on to say that hosting events like the 38th Annual Conference of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa, the 2022 Africa Innovation Ministerial Summit, and the fourth Mid Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union had a significant impact on the aviation industry’s recovery in the previous year.
The KENNETH KAUNDA International Airport and Solwezi Airports, according to Mrs. KAUNDA, handled the most passenger traffic.
Additionally, Mrs. KAUNDA predicted that more tourists will visit Zambia once Turkish Airlines and TAAG of Angola resume their flights there.
She claimed that the two airlines no longer fly the routes they formerly did into Lusaka, and that when they do, the nation may anticipate a sharp increase in arrivals.
The renovation of the Kasama and Kasaba Bay Airports in Northern Province, according to Mrs. KAUNDA, is anticipated to strengthen the aviation industry as the Northern Tourism Circuit offers a variety of activities.
