Kennedy Kalunga, permanent secretary of information and media, was impressed after seeing the Mpali production set of Zambia’s award-winning and AMVCA 2023 nominated telenovela with MultiChoice Zambia’s managing director Leah Kooma and the media.
The familiarization trip is a component of MultiChoice Zambia’s hyper-local strategy, which aims to showcase the numerous opportunities and jobs created in the value chain of the creative industry and further solidify MultiChoice’s promise to enrich lives.
Speaking after the tour, Mr Kalunga said, “Government is impressed with what you are doing here, and government will give you the support.” He added, “What you are doing here is part of job creation which is in line with the government’s policy to create employment and Job opportunities for Zambians. What you are using here in terms of chairs and tables and many other things, on your set is provided by Zambians, meaning you are giving business to fellow Zambians and creating more jobs and empowerment for our people.”
Leah Kooma, Managing Director at MultiChoice Zambia said, “Through Zambezi Magic we are working with local Zambian crews in producing content that is relevant and resonates very well with Zambians”.
“We have seen a value chain that has been created because with so many people being empowered on the Mpali production set alone, jobs such as makeup artists, set designers, logistics, wardrobe and catering services have been created, and this is something we are proud of,” she remarked.
She also urged people to make sure their subscriptions are valid in order to watch the show on Zambezi Magic, a channel available on both DStv and GOtv platforms, in order to support the Mpali production and numerous other shows.
Meanwhile, Mpali Creator and Director, Frank Sibbuku expressed gratitude saying, “I would like to thank MultiChoice and Zambezi Magic for providing us with a platform to tell our authentic local stories and helping us grow from only 3 people to a team of almost 100”.
Mpali has received a nomination for Best original Telenovela at the ninth annual Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs). The awards presentation will take place in Nigeria on May 20, 2023.
