An argument over nshima during a funeral led to the 43-year-old Luanshya man being struck on the forehead with an axe.
Victor Katongo is thought to have been chopped in the forehead by 38-year-old Godwin Kasongo after learning that Mwebela, his cousin, had picked a fight with him about nshima.
After being detained, Mr. Kasongo was charged with unlawful wounding.
According to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, the event happened yesterday at around 12:00 in the Kafubu block community in Luanshya.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the victim Katongo Victor was at the funeral within Kafubu Block Village one and later picked up a quarrel with the cousin to the accused person over nshima ,but later resolved their difference. Later, when the accused person Kasongo came back from where they went to fetch firewood, he heard that his cousin had a quarrel with the victim,” he said.
According to Mr. Mweemba, the victim proceeded to the victim’s location, knocked him to the ground, and struck him in the forehead with an axe.
He claimed that the suspect was later captured by bystanders.
“The victim was rushed to Kafubu Block Clinic for medical attention. Police were later called in and picked the accused person together with the victim who was referred to Thompson Hospital,” he said.
