A few days ago, seasoned South African actress Xolile Tshabalala took out her frustrations about the country’s high food prices through an Instagram video and had her fans and social media followers backing her up and agreeing that things have truly gotten out of hand.

South Africa’s economic decline continues even though the country narrowly avoided a recession in the first quarter, Reuters reported. The country’s tough economic conditions continue to persist and even South African celebrities are feeling the heat.

Blood & Water actress Xolile Tshabalala could no longer keep mum about the ridiculously high food prices in Mzansi as she went on a public rant opening up about her shock when she went to a store and noticed that an ordinary cheap Chomp chocolate now cost a whopping R7.

“Umhlaba uyaphenduka [The world is changing] I am telling you,” she said.

According to Business Tech, a pre-closed market update by Finance group Nedbank which was carried out at the end of June indicated that things were not looking to becoming any better in the following months to come. The group had reportedly revised its GDP growth outlook for Mzansi and is now expecting only 0.1 per cent growth as opposed to the previously expected 0.2 per cent.

Tshabalala’s fans and social media followers have since voiced their valid concerns about the shocking grocery prices in the actresses’ comment section.
