A Kazungula customs clearing agent has been found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison with hard labor by THE Livingstone Magistrate Court.

Forgery in violation of section 347 of the penal code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia and altering a fraudulent document, namely a Bridge Toll Fee Receipt, in violation of section 352 of the penal code chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, were the charges against Morten Moono, 33.

Facts of the case are that on 3rd December 2022 in Kazungula, Morten Moono forged a Zambia Revenue Authority Kazungula Bridge Toll Fee Receipt, date 3rd December,2022 by purporting to show that it was genuinely issued by Zambia Revenue Authority when in fact not,” ZRA acting corporate communications manager,Oliver Nzala said.

Mr. Nzala claimed that the falsified paperwork was used to convince ZRA Customs officials that a truck had, in reality, not paid the US$85 bridge toll fee required to enter Zambia.

He claimed that when Customs authorities examined the Bridge Toll Receipt, they discovered that it was not authentic and reported the inmate to ZRA security.

Members of the public are warned that the Zambia Revenue Authority will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found forging Bridge Toll Receipts and other documents. Through such criminal activities the Government is losing revenue which is supposed to be used in the provision of various socio-economic services and other developmental projects to the public,” he said.
