In Kampala, the capital of Uganda, during the New Year’s celebrations, at least nine people have died in a stampede.

In the tragedy, which occurred at a shopping center where pyrotechnics were being displayed, several kids were murdered.

According to one eyewitness, many suffocated after becoming trapped between groups that were traveling in opposite directions, including his friend.

For the first time since the Covid-19 outbreak began, large gatherings on New Year’s Eve were permitted.

According to Kampala police, several people attended the concert at Freedom City Mall.

Partygoers who had left the gathering to see the midnight fireworks reportedly tried to return inside as a mob grew.

Five people were reportedly killed after being stepped on; they were described as being “mainly children, juveniles.”

Nine fatalities were ultimately recorded after several patients were taken to the hospital.

A friend of his was one of the victims, an eyewitness named Ramadhan Aphongo told local network NTV. “She was happy, she was having fun, but due to loss of oxygen… finally she died,” he said.

An investigation is being conducted.
