The Statutory Instrument number 35 of 2021, which requires a minimum 50% local transporter participation in the sector, is not being enforced, according to the Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia (PTAZ).

BENSON TEMBO, the secretary general of PTAZ, regrets that just 8% of local carriers are participating, as opposed to the 50% required by law.

According to Mr. TEMBO, foreign transporters have penetrated the industry and are displacing locals from their jobs.

He claims that his organization is currently thinking about taking legal action.

Any individual intending to import petroleum products into Zambia must make sure that at least 50%t of the product is delivered by a local carrier, according to Statutory Instrument number 35 of 2021.
