A Kitwe man, 43, has been detained for defiling a 12-year-old girl after giving her a K22 to stay silent about the incident.
A K30 is also thought to have been provided by Gift Munsaka to the victim’s friend, who watched helplessly as her buddy was defiled.
The event, according to Copperbelt commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba, took place between last month’s 30th and this month’s 2nd.
He claimed that Munsaka of Kamfinsa in Kitwe violated the victim’s grandmother, who had reported the event.
“Brief facts are that, between November 30th, this year and December 2nd, the victim was coming from where she had gone with her friend. As they were going home on their way they met suspect whom they knew. He was standing in the shrubs near the road. As they reached where he was, he grabbed the victim and dragged her into the bush. Her friend only watched helplessly as her friend was being defiled by the suspect,” he said.
He said that later the victim pushed the suspect and ran to the road where her friend was standing.
“Munsaka later followed them and warned them not to tell anyone. He gave K30 to the victims friend and also gave K22 to the victim. The victim got scared and spent the night at her friends place. The following morning, the grandmother to the victim went and picked her up. She was later taken to Kalulushi to her aunt’s place. Later the victim disclosed to her aunt that she was defiled. The aunty from Kalulushi then decided to take her back to the grandmother’s place and reported the matter to Police,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said a follow up was made and with the help of the members of the public, the suspect was apprehended and detained in police custody.
