After VP’s passing, Gambia declares seven days of mourning

Following the passing of Vice-President Badara Alieu Joof at the age of 66, The Gambia’s President Adama Barrow has proclaimed a period of seven days of mourning.

After a brief illness, Mr. Joof passed away in India.

Although the government has not verified it, it was believed that he was receiving treatment there.

Upon his return, his body will lay in state in the House of Representatives until his funeral.

His funeral has not yet been given a date.

As a “scholar of great intellect” and a “honest Gambian who devoted his entire life attempting to improve the fate of mankind,” Mr. Joof was characterized by the government in a statement.
