The Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) in the Western Province has urged the government to hire additional teachers for the province’s lower primary and early childhood education programs.
A survey on early childhood education and lower primary teachers conducted in the Shangombo, Sioma, and Mongu districts in the western province by ZANEC focal point person MARTIN INAMBAO indicated a shortage of teachers in both grades.
According to Mr. INAMBAO, Shangombo is the most affected, having 140 instructors short.
According to him, the cornerstone of education is Early Childhood Education and the lower primary grades because they allow children to develop their psychomotor and cognitive abilities.
