The Higher Education Loan and Scholarship Board, the Higher Education Authority, and eight public universities all have council members that have been chosen by the government.
The University of Zambia-UNZA, Copperbelt University-CBU, MULUNGUSHI, PALABANA, KWAME NKRUMAH,MUKUBA,CHALIMBANA, and KAPASA MAKASA Universities are the eight public universities.
The appointments were approved during a Cabinet Meeting on March 28, 2023.
At a news conference in Ndola today, Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA revealed the names of the selected members.
According to Mr. SYAKALIMA, the ministry would consider starting the process four months prior to the end of the term for the current council in order to make up for the lengthy period it takes to designate members.
UNZA Professor HIMONGA CHUMA, CHALIMBANA University Dean of School of Music Performance and Fine Art, Dr. KENNY KAKOMA, and Ministry of Education Director of Infrastructure KAPAYA MWEWA are among the new members of the UNZA Council.
Others include Professor ANNIE SIKWIBILE, vice chancellor at UNZA, and Fabian Mayondo, head of the legal studies department at the National Institute of Public Administration.
Other members of the CBU Council include Vice Chancellor Professor PAUL CHISALE, Associate Professor of Construction Management and Sustainable Practices FRANCO MULEYA, and FELICITY CHISANGA, Secretary of the INDENI Petroleum Refinery Company.
In the meantime, Vice Chancellor Professor KAUNGWA NYIRENDA, Head of the Department of Business Studies Dr.CHOLWE MWIYA, and Zambia Breweries Company Secretary DEBORAH BWALYA are among the newly appointed Council members of MULUNGUSHI University.
Some of the members of the Higher Education Loans and Scholarship Board’s Institution Council include MERCY NGOMA, CEO of the Zambia Qualification Authority, HARRINGTON CHIBANDA, CEO of the Zambian Federation of Employers, and GEOFFREY SAMUKONGA, chair of Millennium Holdings.
Examination Council of Zambia Council Secretary TEZA MUSAKANYA, ZAMBIA National Education Coalition Executive Director GEORGE HAMUSUNGA, Ministry of Justice Principal Legal Officer FAITH AMUNDILA, and British American Tobacco Head of Legal and External Affairs CHIPEGO ZULU are the new council members for the Higher Education Authority.
