Christmas boosts business in Lusaka, and Kitwe reports 13 assault cases

Some retailers in Lusaka said that they saw an increase in business over the weekend as holiday shopping grew in marketplaces and other retail locations.

The increase in business has been attributed by the merchants to mass purchases of Christmas-related goods.

However, between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, 13 assault cases were reported at the Kitwe Teaching Hospital in Kitwe.

Three of the 13 instances, according to PHOEBE CHILEYA, the public relations officer for Kitwe Teaching Hospital, include gender-based violence.

Ms. CHILEYA stated that the hospital also treated victims from five traffic accidents and one brought-in dead case in an interview with ZNBC News in Kitwe.
