Commissioned: Mwami-Mchinji One Stop Border Post

The Mchinji-Mwami One Stop Border Post has been formally opened by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and his Malawian counterpart LAZARUS CHAKWERA.

The border post was cited by the two leaders as a significant turning point in the growth of Malawi and Zambia.

Additionally, President HICHILEMA has instructed the Ministry of Home Affairs to meet with their Malawian counterpart as soon as possible to discuss ways to remove the numerous obstacles that slow down the flow of traffic from the border.

However, the President warns that the ideas and actions shouldn’t jeopardize the security of the two nations.

In addition to thanking the collaborating parties, President HICHILEMA said that the One Stop Border Post is the most useful and practical method of interacting with the people of the African continent.

The one-stop border station is the first of its kind to open in Malawi, according to President CHAKWERA.

He claimed that because Zambia already has equivalent functional facilities, Malawi is keen to learn from them.

However, the development of the infrastructure has been praised by Mchinji and Mpezeni, paramount chiefs of the Ngoni people of Malawi and the eastern province.

The Mchinji railway line has been requested by the Paramount Chief as well.

The Minister of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, CHIPOKA MULENGA, also stated his commitment to facilitating trade between the two nations.

According to MARK KATSONGA, Malawi’s Minister of Trade and Industry, the border facility will help Zambia and his nation’s trade restrictions to be removed.

Additionally, the one-stop border post is in keeping with the Bank’s overall strategy, according to the project’s funder, the African Development Bank (AfDB).

AfDB Country Manager for Zambia, RAUBIL OLANIYI DUROWOJU, has urged the two nations to prioritize facility upkeep.
