Mzansi’s celebrities and loved ones came together this morning at the Lewende Woord church in Centurion, Pretoria, to celebrate the life of slain amapiano pioneer and owner of Ayepyep Lifestyle, DJ Sumbody
His wife Tlotlo, penned a heartbreaking message to her husband describing how gutted she is, following her husband’s tragic murder.
DJ Sumbody’s life was cut short in a hail of bullets in the early hours of Sunday morning in Johannesburg. While paying tribute to him, Tlotlo praised him for achieving the dreams he had spoken about when he was broke.
The letter reads:
“A letter to my heart. I lay here so consumed with heartbreak and pain. I am overwhelmed with so many emotions because we had so many things we had planned.
I am truly grateful for the time we spent together. 12 years of love, laughter, and pain.
I am so grateful to have been a part of your journey to success. Lifting you up with support, I am proud of the man you are and were. I am proud of the leader you were in our lives. There is so much I would like to say, but as I write this tears are rolling down my face because our house will no longer be the same without you.
No more hearing “baby” all the way from upstairs because you cannot find your clothes. I am so angry, but I want you to know how much I love you. There are no words to describe it the pain is so deep. Watching you achieve everything you spoke about when you were broke is truly a blessing. I do not take any of it for granted.
To Sbu who loved and protected my husband. I want you to know that he loved you dearly as a friend, and I appreciate you being here with us. May the heavens accept both of your souls.”
Cassper, who also attended the memorial service, gave an emotional tribute to DJ Sumbody. The musician was overcome by emotions as he recounted how he met him.
“Me and DJ Sumbody met a long time ago. I don’t know who he took my number from. However, when he was on the radio he would call me every week to give me an interview without telling me anything before. I would answer thinking it was just a call, and he would be like “you are life on air, you see we are supporting you” and that is how our relationship started. How we became close friends with him is a funny story,” he said.
He continued “One day he pulled me at a party where they had booked me at Ayepyep and said you are my boy and I understand you. I want to tell you something, they are jealous of you.”
Cassper also spoke about the making of his hit song Monate mpolaye.
“He was not scared to tell what everyone was scared to say and from there we became very close mutual friends. We went on to release the song Monate Mpolaya and I didn’t like it but he would take no for an answer and when the song was released it changed everyone’s career not only theirs but even mine.
