The artificial mealie meal deficit in the nation, according to the Centre for Trade Policy and Development (CTPD), does not call for a prohibition on the export of the product.
Inflicting an export ban on mealie meal each time there is a problem, according to CTPD Executive Director ISAAC MWAIPOPO, will make the export of the good unpredictable and will change the nation’s export profile.
In order to support value addition by exporting mealie meal, according to Mr. MWAIPOPO, maize grain exports must be prohibited.
In an interview with ZNBC News, he stated that the Center is certain that the mealie meal issue would be resolved because it has historically happened right before harvest.
Mr. MWAIPOPO has urged the government to implement predictable policies in the agriculture sector and inform the populace of any changes or new programs.
