Eight-year-old Kitwe grade two student who was allegedly defiled by a man in the area while being left in the care of a pastor by her aunt who had gone to the farm.
The girl was apparently waiting for a friend who she had been ordered to contact outside when the culprit, only identified as Chama, allegedly took her into his house.
Only after a woman she encountered at the market informed her about the alleged trauma did the victim’s aunt learn of the occurrence.
According to Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba, the incident happened in Kandabwe Township on Friday of last week, about 14:00.
“Brief facts are that in the morning of March 17 , last Friday, the auntie to the victim went to the farm situated in Kalulushi area and left her two nieces in custody of a female pastor. On the same day, around 14:00 hours, the girl knocked off from school and went straight to the pastor’s residence as per instructions. During the day, she was sent to call her friend near the suspects house, but she was not responding.
While waiting, Chama opened up from his house and grabbed the victim by the hand, pulled her inside the house where she was undressed, covered her mouth, and defiled her. She was later let out of the house through the other door to go home,” he said.
The victim, according to Mr. Mweemba, never notified anyone until her aunt picked them up from her pastor’s care when she got home from the farm on Monday about 14:00.
“Later in the evening, the victim’s aunt went to the market to buy some food for evening meals when she met a woman who informed her that while she was away, the victim was dragged into some house within the compound by the suspect who even had sex with her. The complainant decided to confront the suspect, but he denied knowledge of the incident. She was then advised to take the girl for medical examination and thereafter reported the matter to the police,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said investigations in the matter have been instituted.
