After the widespread smuggling of mealie into neighboring nations, the government has authorized the suspension of taxes on maize corn flour, often known as mealie-meal.
The statutory document was signed by Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, minister of finance and national planning.
According to Dr. Musokotwane, the tariff suspension only applies when mealie-meal is brought in by a person who has been granted an import permit by the Ministry of Agriculture.
He stated, “Statutory Instrument Number 10 of 2023, was gazetted and took effect on April 6, 2023.
According to Dr. Musokotwane, the action has been taken to help address the mealie-meal scarcity in various regions of the nation.
He claimed that by suspending the tax on maize flour, often known as mealie-meal, the government anticipates greater supply of the basic good.
