HH receives inaugural VIP Global Water Changemaker Award

The inaugural VIP Global Water Changemaker Award was given to President Hakainde Hichilema.

At the United Nations Water Conference Side Event held in New York, United States of America, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Dr. Chola Milambo, accepted the honor on behalf of the Zambian people.

State House Chief Communication Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said in a statement that the honor was presented for national leadership in the introduction of the water investment program.

“President Hakainde Hichilema, on 16 July 2022, launched the first ever Zambia Water Investment Program (AIP-Zambia) during the African Union Mid-Year Co-ordination Summit, in Lusaka.

As water is the main source of socio-economic development, the aim of the program is to enhance job creation of about 200 000 formal jobs and about 800 000 indirect jobs by 2030 through gender sensitive investment in water security, industralisation and climate resilient development,” he said.

According to Mr. Hamasaka, the initiative has so far trained officials from a variety of industries on how to include gender equality into water and climate programs all around the nation.

According to him, the Zambia Water Investment Program is anticipated to provide at least two million Zambians with economic prospects as a result of the investments in water and sanitation as well as other program initiatives.
