Increase In Registration For The Council For Construction Records

The number of contractor registration certificates issued in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year increased by 4.8 percent, according to the National Council for Construction (NCC).

According to NCC Acting Executive Director KABONDO MUNTANGA, additional Constituency Development Funds (CDF) have helped more certificates be registered as a result of constituency development projects.

Speaking to the media in Lusaka today, Mr. MUNTANGA claimed that the recent announcement of the construction of the dual road between Lusaka and Ndola has also contributed to the rise in certificate registration.

And Mr. MUNTANGA revealed that the council issued 12 warning letters and fined 10 contractors for various offenses, mostly involving site safety.

Chance Kaonga, NCC Director of Registration and Regulation, urged women to become interested in the building industry.

According to Mr. Kaonga, only 5.7 percent of the 3,100 establishments the council evaluated had female employees, meaning the industry has remained overwhelmingly male.
