Junkies show in court for unruly idle behavior offenses

Thirty-three accused criminals—commonly referred to as “junkies”—appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court on charges of being idle and unruly.

Following a cleanup operation last month, the thirty-three addicts were detained as a result of complaints from the general public.

The 33 people, who ranged in age from 18 to 35, were all accused of being idle and disorderly pursuant to Section 178(f) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, and were all arrested. According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale.

“All the 33 ‘junkies’ aged between 18 and 35 who were apprehended during the operation in Lusaka recently have appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate court.

Our operation aimed at making communities and the Central Business District (CBD) free from criminal gangs will continue,” he said.
