Minister in the Presidency responsible for State Security, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, who is visiting China has emphasized the importance of combating cyber security threats. She is accompanying President Cyril Ramaphosa on a state visit ahead of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation Summit. Ntshavheni says it is important to exchange information regarding cyber security.
“We are working with all the countries of the world in line with the UN directives in terms of global peace. But you know that the People’s Republic of China is quite advanced on cyber security matters. So it is areas that we cooperate with [them] and they assist us. We are also exchanging our lessons and [they] learning from that.”
“For us it is important [that] when we move from here, [and] we are going to the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting to focus on those issues of not only cyber security but internet safety,” adds Ntshavheni. Meanwhile, Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau says he hopes trade relations with China can be expanded further. China is South Africa’s biggest trading partner.
Speaking to the SABC in China, Tau said: “The principle agreement that we should improve the quality of trade with China is an important part of the visit. We have agreed that we need to focus now on manufactured goods and enhancing the export of manufactured goods from South Africa into the Chinese market. We have presented a list of 98 products, that include most primary manufactured goods that we would be trading with China and it’s part of the agreement we are presenting,” added Tau.
