Man from Ndola detained for deflowering Minor

After deflowering a 15-year-old girl on Independence Day of last year, an NDOLA man is accused of defiling three people.

Police received a complaint about Philip Sakala, 23, of Ndola’s Zambia complex for regularly defiling the child between October 23, 2022 and January 1, this year.

When it was discovered that Mr. Sakala was being intimate with the minor, the two families met and decided that the victim’s family would get K5,000 in compensation, to be paid in K500 increments each month.

The victim used to be threatened by Mr. Sakala, compelling her to spend nights at his house where he reportedly took advantage of her on numerous occasions, according to Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba.

According to Mr. Mweemba, the victim’s mother denounced Mr. Sakala to the police.

“The mother reported that her daughter was defiled by a male person  identified as Mr Sakala  also of unmarked house within Zambia compound in Ndola District.Brief facts are that on October 24, 2022 the father of the victim woke up in the morning and found that his daughter did not spend her night in the house, he then went to search for her in company of the victim’s elder sister” Mr Mweemba said.

Mr Mweemba said the search led to Sakala’s home, where the victim was found.

“Upon being found, the suspect was warned by the victim’s father to stop the habit of getting his child to his house. Surprisingly again, on December 25,2022, the victim ran away from home and spent a night out. Again, this was found with Sakala in his home.

“When questioned by her father why she was again at his home, she explained that she had been threatened to be beaten if she ever refused to go to Sakala’s house,” He said.

The victim was taken to Kan’gonga Mission hospital, where she was examined and treated.

“Unfortunately, Mr Sakala failed to fulfill the K5000 agreement, and that’s how the victim’s family took the matter to the local court and sued for destroying the victim’s virginity.

“When the local court magistrate learnt that the victim was 15 years old, he then decided to engage Masala police officers from the victim support unit, who quickly rushed to the local court and apprehend the suspect for the offence of defilement,” Mr Mweemba said.

He said the official report of defilement was made on January 1,2023.

“A medical report form was issued to the victim and has since been taken to Ndola Teaching Hospital for further medical examination and treatment. Docket opened, and the suspect is charged with three counts of defilement,” Mr Mweemba said.
