Siavonga family Member Killed By Croc

A Siavonga family experienced a tragic day when they were obliged to bury the limb of a relative who had been brutally assaulted and killed by a crocodile.

On Friday, Patson Moonga is thought to have gone fishing at Lake Kariba, but regrettably he never got home.

Unfortunately, a man named Masuzyo Siambulo saw the victim’s body being pulled by a crocodile early yesterday morning and hurried to call the authorities.

The relatives have since buried a leg, according to police spokesperson Danny Mwale, who verified the tragic news through a media statement.

“Police in Siavonga received a report in which a man identified as Masuzyo Siambulo of Kabuyu Island in Siavonga District reported that he spotted unidentified body being dragged by a crocodile on Lake Kariba. Brief facts are that Mr Siambulo was checking his net on the Lake when he saw something floating and when he drew nearer, he saw a crocodile dragging a human body,” he said.

He said Police and members of the public who rushed to the scene only found a left leg floating which they managed to retrieve.

“The deceased was later identified by his relatives as Patson Moonga aged 20 of Matente village in Siavonga District. It was reported that the deceased went fishing on Friday, March 3, 2023 around 18:00 hours. The leg has since been buried by his relatives,” he said.
