After being attacked by a hippopotamus, a 32-year-old man from the Chirundu District is fighting for his life in the hospital.
Stallone Chileshe of Gabon was discovered by police while on patrol in Chirundu, lying unconscious in a pool of blood next to his home, which is not far from the Zambezi River.
According to police deputy spokeswoman Danny Mwale, the event occurred on January 11, 2023, between 03:30 and 04:03.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was attacked when he met the mammal with its calf while on its way to the Zambezi River leaving him with serious injuries,” he said.
Mr. Mwale claimed that traces of the hippopotamus had been seen by police as well as by officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
According to him, the sufferer who suffered significant injuries to his left arm pit and left side of the chest is currently being treated at Mtendere Mission Hospital.
Police, according to Mr. Mwale, have started an inquiry file into the incident.
