Three foreigners Arrested for swindling Zambian man

Police in Lusaka have detained THREE men, two from the Central African Republic and one from the Congo, on suspicion of defrauding a specified Zambian man of K35,000 under the pretense that they were selling a car.

The Toyota Mark X that the three people who were detained in Lusaka’s Emmasdale neighborhood sold to their victim turned out to be a hired car after further inquiry.

Also, authorities have detained a wanted man of Zimbabwean heritage who was wanted by INTERPOL for a number of tax fraud-related offenses perpetrated in the United States of America.

According to Zambia police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the three people arrested for allegedly attempting to defraud a specified Zambian citizen are between the ages of 34 and 53.

“Police are holding three foreign nationals for the offence of Obtaining money by false pretenses. The three, all males aged between 34 and 53, are from the Central African Republic and one from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.They are alleged to have swindled a named Zambian of money amounting to K35,000.00 on pretext that they were selling a Toyota Mark X which after investigations was discovered that it was a hired motor vehicle,” he said.

The Toyota Vitz the suspects were driving has been seized for additional investigation, according to him, after they were apprehended yesterday at around 23:00 in the Emmasdale region.

In the other case, Nyika Simba, a 42-year-old Zimbabwean national who had been wanted by INTERPOL for crimes she committed in the US, was captured in Lusaka.

At Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Saturday at noon, he was detained as he prepared to depart the country.

“Nyika Simba aged has been on INTERPOL wanted list for various offences involving tax fraud in Texas, United States of America.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect came to Zambia on February 16, 2023.

He is detained in Police custody waiting for extradition processes,” Mr Mwale confirmed.
