On March 8, 2023, Yango joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD), with the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”. Yango invited numerous female drivers to an event honoring women’s day that was held on March 8th at The Hub in Lusaka as part of the celebration.
The mobility app has given people equitable access to solutions that are pertinent and necessary for them to advance into growth without bias, according to Kabanda Chewe, Yango Zambia’s Country Manager. This has allowed even women access to technology, enabling them to enhance their progress across all service offerings. Within two months of signing up, one of Yango’s female drivers, Patricia Ncube, described how the app had improved her financial situation:
“By the month two of signing up, I started receiving more rides, earned more money, and quickly became debt free. In addition to empowering me, I have found it to be incredibly engaging. It has significantly improved my life.
The emphasis of this year’s subject was on the value of recognizing and resolving the unique difficulties and problems that women face. Yango recognizes the work these women put in to support the ride-hailing service in a society where men predominate. Yango is delighted to have held a live event for the exceptional female drivers. Greetings on International Women’s Day!
