Zambia is dealing with a lack of antibiotic efficacy

The overuse of pharmaceuticals, which has resulted in drug resistance, worries the government.

Low antibiotic efficacy, according to SYLVIA MASEBO, the minister of health, threatens effective illness management.

According to Ms. MASEBO, data from both human and veterinary health demonstrates the worrisome rates of drug resistance in various hospitals and in animals used for food production.

The minister was speaking as part of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week celebration.

Drug abuse, according to Zambia’s National Public Health Institute Director ROMA CHILENGI, not only causes drug resistance but also death.

Meanwhile, SINYANGA MAKOMANI, the acting director general of Zambia’s ZAMRA, advised individuals to quit self-prescribing medications.
