27-year-old  Attempt8ing to steal ZESCO support isolator shot

A 27-year-old  who attempted to steal a ZESCO support isolator in Kafue was shot and killed by ZNS cops.

After attempting to take the support for the isolator, a 27-year-old Kafue resident was shot and killed by Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers who were manning the ZESCO switch yard in Kafue district.

Ignitious Simfukwe, a 25-year-old who suffered a gunshot wound but managed to flee, was in the presence of Lucky Ndinda. Simfukwe was eventually captured.

In addition, police have also detained a 12-year-old child who is a suspect.

According to Danny Mwale, a deputy spokesperson for the Zambian police, the event happened yesterday at or around 1:00 a.m. at the ZESCO Kafue west switch yard.

“Police initial investigations revealed that Zambia National Service officers manning the ZESCO Switch yard in Kafue District shot the suspects who were attempting to steal the supporter of the isolator.On January 5, 2023 Police received information from the members of public to the effect that they had seen one person with gunshot wounds who they identified as Ignitious Simfukwe aged 25 of unknown house number in Soloboni compound of Kafue District.Acting on the same information, Police rushed to the his house where he was apprehended from” he said.

According to Mr. Mwale, the suspect admitted to being present during the attempted heist at the ZESCO Kafue West Switch Yard premises along with his buddies.

“The suspect identified his deceased colleague as Lucky Ndinda aged 27 also of Soloboni compound in Kafue. He later led the Police to another suspect, a Juvenile aged 12 who was also apprehended by Police officers.The suspect with gunshot wounds was taken to Kafue District Hospital where he is receiving treatment while other suspect is detained in Police custody,” he said.
