3 People Arrested Stealing fertilizer valued at over K1 Million

A depot warehouse manager is one of THREE persons who have been detained in relation to the fertilizer theft at Sea Land Commodities Company Limited.

The suspects are accused of stealing 947 bags of Compound D fertilizer, each weighing 50 kilos and costing K1,334,417.00.

According to police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the theft is believed to have taken place at an unspecified period between March 9, 2023 and March 14, 2023 in a warehouse owned by Sea Land Commodities Company Ltd in Lusaka West.

He claimed that on March 14, 2023, at around 08:00, one of the company’s employees found the theft and immediately notified the Police.

“Police officers visited the scene and investigations were instituted which revealed that the fertilizer was secured in the company warehouse on March 9, 2023 and on March 14, 2023, it was discovered that 947 bags of fertilizer were missing from where it was secured inside the warehouse.  Three suspects were arrested and detained in custody,”he said.

A Toyota IST with the registration number AHB 2643 that was taken on March 14, 2023 from the Kanyama premises has since been found by Lusaka police.

Around 16:00 hours, the car was taken along Kalusha Bwalya Road after its owner, Milambo Tryson, age 26, entered a store and left the keys in the ignition.

“The matter was reported to Police and investigations were instituted leading to the recovery of the vehicle on March 15, 2023 around 02:00 hours in Makeni area.The motor vehicle was impounded and the driver identified as Amos Muyumba aged 23 of Bauleni compound was arrested and currently detained in custody. Investigations are ongoing in both incidents,”Mr Mwale said.
