A 39-year-old guy is being detained by police in the Rufunsa District for the crime of incest.
The guy is said to have known his 67-year-old, visually handicapped grandma.
According to a statement from police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the individual was arrested on January 1, 2023, at around 5:00 a.m. by locals in a specific area.
“Initial investigations revealed that the victim who has impaired vision went to sleep in her house alone on December 31, 2022 around 20:00 hours and on January 1, 2023 at around 05:00 hours, the suspect was seen running out of the same house by his aunty. She alerted members of the community who gave chase and apprehended him,” he said.
According to Mr. Mwale, police responded to the scene and detained the suspect while transporting the victim to the hospital for treatment.
In the meantime, authorities are looking into an infanticide case in which a fully developed baby was discovered abandoned in a pit latrine by unidentified people in Lusaka’s Kamwala South neighborhood.
According to him, the kid was found there on January 1, 2023, at 2:00 a.m. by the caretaker of the residence, which is occupied by several renters.
“Police were alerted and together with community members retrieved the body of the baby girl from the pit latrine.The body is in University Teaching Hospitals mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial. Investigations have been instituted,” Mr Mwale said.
