To encourage further investments in power generation and distribution, ZESCO has suggested a 37 percent increase in the electricity cost.

While the company pursues investments in alternative energy sources, ZESCO Head of Business Development Fitzpatrick Kapepe reports that the Utility has submitted an application to the Energy Regulatory Board (ERB) for an increase.

To minimize Zambia’s reliance on hydropower, according to Mr. KAPEPE, it is vital to make investments in alternate energy sources.

At a ZESCO stakeholder engagement meeting on the proposed 37-percent increase that was conducted at the Garden Court Hotel in Kitwe, he made this statement.

And KENNEDY BUPE, Chief Engineer for Systems and Operations at ZESCO, revealed that the Utility is putting money into solar energy and other alternative energy sources to meet the demand for electricity across the country.

Moreover, Kitwe District Commissioner LAWRENCE MWANZA urged increased funding for the energy industry.
