Additional student loans totaling $584 have been given to 584 students attending Copperbelt and Chalimbana Universities by the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board.
For the 2022–2023 academic year, 526 qualified first-year students at Copperbelt University and 58 at Chalimbana University will get loans.
The additional student loans at Copperbelt University come from internal savings, according to Board Senior Corporate Communications Officer CHISELWA KAWANDA, while the 58 at Chalimbana University are replacement loans for students who were offered but did not accept them.
According to her, the students at Copperbelt University were chosen from among the qualified candidates who were not successful in the initial round of selection that was released last year.
This takes the total number of students at Copperbelt University who have received student loans for the 2022–2023 academic year to 2,651, according to Ms. KAWANDA.
Chalimbana University submitted 1,334 applications to the Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board for the 2022–2023 academic year, of which 1,045 qualified for sponsorship and 514 were granted.
Copperbelt University received over 4,846 sponsorship applications, of which 4,664 qualified for funding and 2,125 received it.
