As the process moves into the final selection round, the field of 36 players for the chess national team has been reduced to 16.

According to chess Federation of Zambia President LESLIE CHIKUSE, the final round will take place in Ndola from February 9 to February 11.

All national team trials, according to CHIKUSE, are being held in an effort to encourage transparency in national team selection and guarantee that only deserving individuals will represent the nation this year in various events.

In an interview with ZNBC Sports News, CHIKUSE stated that just four male and four female players would be chosen from the 16 available.

He revealed that LORITA MWANGO & ANDREW KAYONDE, two of Zambia’s top-ranked players, have already secured spots on the national squad as a result of their rankings.
