Teenage pregnancies among schoolgirls have increased in North Western Province, according to statistics.

Compared to 2021, when there were 1,699 occurrences, the province saw 2,059 cases of adolescent pregnancies in 2022.

According to AKENOE WAMUWI, the senior education secretary for North Western Province, Mushindamo District had the most instances.

Addressing at a stakeholder engagement gathering in Solwezi, Mr. WAMUWI said that the high rate of teenage pregnancies is having an impact on female students’ academic performance.

And JENNIFER BANDA, the education officer for the North Western Province, noted that the largest problem the province is still having is a lack of classroom space.
