The 38-year-old actor from Manguzi, northern KZN, told the publication his family had warned him to be careful on the streets because viewers hate his character.

“However, as an actor, I am very happy to see viewers being blown away by my character’s current storyline. I’m not scared of being hurt, but proud of myself.”

His character Nyawo steals important dockets from the police station storeroom and when provincial police leaders inspect the station, they’re shocked to find dockets and evidence missing.

As the leader, Mondli is held accountable and arrested for corruption and Nyawo gets appointed as acting station captain. The series of events has upset viewers so much that some of them have taken to social media to say they hate Nyawo.

“My mother knows I’m just acting but she’s from a rural area and knows many people are not enlightened about certain things,” he said.

“She called me and warned me to be careful on the streets, fearing that Mondli’s fans could attack me but I have assured her that she doesn’t need to worry. I’m only acting and I asked her to be proud of her son.”

He said viewers would be surprised by the u[coming developments on the show.

“Nyawo has always been corrupt, but his day is coming,” he said.
