Maureen Bwalya, a councilor for the UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt, passed away after a battle with illness.

Chililabombwe recommended Ms. Bwalya for treatment at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), but she passed away this afternoon.

Precious Njekwa, the Chililabombwe District Commissioner who verified the tragic news to Mwebantu in an interview, expressed regret at the loss of a female leader.

Yes, we have lost a serving councillor by the name of Maureen Bwalya. Ms Bwalya had been unwell and was referred to UTH for treatment, but unfortunately she died this afternoon. It is unfortunate that we have lost a serving female leader who was one of only two female councillors in the district. May Her Soul Rest in peace,” she said
