17 suspected illegal immigrants were detained by THE Department of Immigration at a farm in Chongwe’s Silverest neighborhood.
Acting on information from the police, who had received a report of the presence of suspected prohibited immigrants at Kapwelyomba Farm along Great East Road by some security guards while conducting routine patrols inside the Farm, immigration acting public relations officer Josephine Malambo said the officers hurried to the scene and discovered a total of 17 suspected prohibited immigrants of Ethiopian origin.
Investigations, according to Ms. Malambo, have been launched to determine how the immigrants ended up in the specified site as well as the identity of the Farm’s owner.]
The incident is being handled as a suspected case of human trafficking because, according to her, the immigrants are all male and range in age from 12 to 25.
“Meanwhile, the 17 and the 18 immigrants earlier apprehended in Kaunda Square Stage II around 01:00Hrs on a Toyota Haice Registration AIB No. 4244 by the Zambia Police have all been transferred to Mwembeshi Correctional Facility pending further immigration formalities.
